Grand Avenue Temple

United Methodist Church

where everybody is somebody special

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Feb. 11, 1912--The Grand Avenue Methodist Episcopal Church, Kansas City’s skyscraper house of worship, was dedicated today.  Bishop William F. Anderson of Chattanooga, Tenn., and the Rev. Charles Bayard Mitchell of Chicago, made the principal addresses.  The dedicatory ceremony will continue all week.

The church is the pioneer Methodist organization of the city, and has occupied the same location, now one of the prominent corners of the downtown district, since 1866.  The new edifice is a wing of a twelve-story office building erected by the congregation and bearing the name of the Grand Avenue Temple.  The auditorium of the church will seat 1,500 persons.  The church has one of the largest pipe organs in this country.
